Installing Cloud Mirroring with License Files

This article covers how to install cloud mirroring to write to a secondary object store, as an actively maintained copy of the primary object store.

Requirements

The following requirements need to be met prior to enabling Cloud Mirroring on a Panzura CloudFS node:

New customers:

• CloudFS 8.1.0.0 or later

• Cloud Mirroring license

• Object store supported by CloudFS (available in the Admin guide)

Existing customers upgrading to v8.1.0.0 or later:

• Cloud Mirroring license

• Object store supported by CloudFS (available in the Admin guide)

As a best practice, for all existing and new users, create a master snapshot before enabling Cloud Mirroring. This will help to keep the big picture intact and improve performance when synchronizing the secondary object store.

Configuring Cloud Mirroring during CloudFS deployment using License Files

For new deployments of CloudFS, you can enable Cloud Mirroring for the entire cluster via the installation wizard of the Master Configuration node. This can be accomplished with a Group License, which should come with your initial bundle of licenses. The Group License simplifies configuration by propagating the object store parameters (e.g. Access Key, Bucket, Path, Object Store account information) to all subordinate and HA nodes.

1. In the Installation Wizard, enter only the License to Operate and Group Licenses provided by Panzura Support:

2. Move on in the installation wizard until you reach the “License Settings” Page. Select “License Group” and click “Activate”. Do the same for the “Cloud Controller” license:

3. See that the status of both the Group License and License to Operate are “Active”.

4. Complete the remaining steps of the installation wizard. If you require assistance with installation, contact your Panzura Support staff or refer to the admin guide: Admin guide: Installation Guides.

5. In the CloudFS UI, navigate to Configuration > License Settings > Installed License Modules. Click “ADD” to add in your remaining licenses.

6. When you’re done adding in all the licenses, configure the CSP. Then, select the CMP license and click “EDIT”:

7. Enter the configuration information for your secondary object store:

You may select the same object store provider for Primary and Secondary cloud. For example, the same provider may provide object store services in different regions.

8. Once completed, you can see the status of the CMP license becomes “Active”. The Cloud Mirroring feature is now enabled on your node:

a. You can see that the CMP license status is “Active”, verifying that Cloud Mirroring is enabled.

b. You can see that the Group License status is “Active”, and that the CMP license has the same “Group ID” as the Group License. This ensures that CMP configuration is propagated to subordinate and HA nodes.

Note: You may select the same object store provider for Primary and Secondary cloud. For example, the same provider may provide object store services in different regions. Mirroring and secondary object store configuration will be propagated to subordinate and HA nodes. The default Group ID value is the Master Configuration nodehostname.

Configuring Cloud Mirroring after Upgrading using License Files

For existing deployments of CloudFS, you must first upgrade to CloudFS v8.1.0.0 or later. Then, you can enable Cloud Mirroring for the entire cluster via the Master Configuration node. This can be accomplished with a Group License, which should come with your Cloud Mirroring license. The Group License simplifies configuration by propagating the object store parameters (e.g. Access Key, Bucket, Path, Object Store account information) to all subordinate and HA nodes.

1. In the CloudFSUI, navigate to Configuration > License Settings > Installed License Modules. Click “ADD” and add the Group License (this should be done before adding the CMP license):

2. Select “License Group” and click “ACTIVATE”. You will see the status of the Group License change from “New”to “Active”. You will also see the Group ID column populated with the Group ID. The default value is the master configuration node hostname:

3. Click “ADD” and select your CMP license file:

4. Select the CMP license and click “EDIT”:

5. Enter the configuration information for your secondary object store:

You may select the same object store provider for Primary and Secondary cloud. For example, the same provider may provide object store services in different regions.

6. The CMP license status is now “Active”. The CMP license Group ID is now the same as the Group License Group ID. The Cloud Mirroring feature is now enabled. Cloud Mirroring and secondary object store configuration will AUTOMATICALLY propagate to subordinate and HA nodes.

Group License is not required to enable Cloud Mirroring.

If Group License is used on the Master Configuration node (as in the above example), the Group License and CMP license will AUTOMATICALLY propagate all Cloud Mirroring settings and secondary object store configuration to subordinate and HA nodes within the same CloudFS cluster. No further configuration is required to enable Cloud Mirroring for your CloudFS cluster.

If Group License is NOT used, you must install the Cloud Mirroring license onto and configure each subordinate and HA node separately.
