Panzura Data Services Manage Plugins

This article explains how to connect Panzura (and other compatible) filers to Data Services, and manage those connections.

Manage Plugins is accessible from the Management section in the menu at left.

Once filers are connected, you'll see the following information:

  • Plugin Type: which shows whether the plugin is an open NFS/SMB or Panzura filer
  • Target: the filer plugin names
  • Created On: the time at which the filer’s plugins are registered on Data Services
  • File System: the filer names
  • Status: the connection and operational status of the filers, being one of the following:
    • Running: for when communication between Data Services and filers are normal
    • Disconnected: for when there is no communication between the No Data Services and the filers
    • Removed: for when the filers are removed from the Data Services
    • Scanning: which shows whether the filers are being scanned at the moment
    • Indexing: which shows whether the filers’ data are being indexed at the moment
  • Version: which shows the release version of the plugins installed on the filers

Manage Plugins: Add Plugins

Follow these steps to add a new filer:

  • Step 1: Choose Plugin, select between the two types of filers that are supported by Data Services: a Panzura filer (Freedom NAS) or Open NFS/SMB filer

  • Step 2: Activation Key, where Data Services provides users with the activation keys that need to be entered on the filers through their configuration dashboards, in order to connect to Data Services

  • Step 3: Configure System, which is the step during which the system configurations must take place for the  following two options:
  • Freedom NAS, for which users are guided on how and where on the filers configuration dashboard to enter the hostnames and activation keys
  • Open NFS/SMB, for which users can are provided a download link for a Virtual Machine for Open NFS/SMB filers, which must be deployed on ESX 6.0 or above
  • Step 4: Configure Panzura Data Services
  • Freedom NAS: Configure Audit, through which users are instructed on how to configure the audit options on the Freedom NAS filers, under the AS-Audit license in the License Manager section of the filers Configuration dashboard. The audit configurations options including:
        • For SYSLOGHOST, (- for no syslog host)
        • For INCLUDE-FILES, (* for all files)
        • For EXCLUDE-FILES, (-, for no exclusion)
        • For ACCESS, (close, create, delxattr, mkdir, open, read, remove, rmdir, rename, rlclaim, setattr, setxattr, write)

        • Hostname
        • Indexer Plugin Name

        • File System Plugin ID
        • Network Information
  • Step 5: Verify, through which users can verify the registration of the new filers plugins on the Data Services

Manage Plugins: Pause, Remove and Configuration

Selecting one or multiple plugins from the My Plugins table, enables users to perform the following operations for plugins through the Actions dropdown menu that appears on top right of the page:

  • Pause/Resume: through which users can Pause/Resume the plugin connection to the Data Services. Pausing the plugins stops the connection of the plugin to the Data Services and during pauses, the filers’ metadata and audit logs will not be received by Data Services
  • Deregistering: permanently Deregistering filers’ plugin from the Data Services. The deregistration processes take place through the following stages:
  1. When the Running or Disconnected plugins are deregistered, their statuses change to Removed, which means that the plugins are removed from the Data Services
  2. When the Removed plugins are selected, users have the option to delete all their indexes, including metadata and audit indexes, for those filers. If the indices of filers plugins are deleted, the plugins disappear from the My Plugins table
  • Configure: through which users can Configure their filers plugin, for the following options:
  • Meta Interval: for enabling/disabling and the configuring the time interval of scanning the metadata from the filers
  • Freedom Pulse: for enabling/disabling the transmission of the filer’s performance metrics to the Data Services for its Freedom Pulse service
  • Audit Logs: for enabling/disabling the transmission of of audit logs from the filers
