Panzura Data Services Freedom Pulse

Pulse gathers information on the operational performance information of Panzura filers and presents them in at-a-glance format.

Freedom Pulse receives operational performance metrics from all connected Panzura filers, every five minutes, and presents them as follows:

  • Overview view: which presents the combination of most important metrics, for the best or worst performing filers
  • System view: which presents the information mainly focused on hardware metrics
  • Storage view: which provides a variety of information about the local and Cloud storage
  • Cloud view: which provides metrics related to the cloud communication and inter-filer and snapshots
  • Events view: which is dedicated to Panzura Filers events and their statistics

Gathering filers’ performance metrics is on by default.

To turn this service off, select each filer in the Manage Plugins page, navigate to the Configure page through the Actions drop down-menu, and toggle the Freedom Pulse  switch off. The Freedom Pulse information is lost for the duration that this switch is turned off.

The following picture shows the Configure page for a filer selected through the Actions dropdown menu of the Data Services Manage Plugins page.

The Freedom Pulse service ingest its data from all the filers of the each CloudFS that is registered to Data Services.  However, they present the data for only one CloudFS at the time. So, if an account has multiple CloudFS, the first thing users need to do is to select the CloudFS they want to see its data, as the following picture shows.

Except for the Freedom Pulse service’s Overview page, the metrics in all other views are historical, and users can select the time periods they are interested in.

Also, on each of the Freedom Pulse service views, users can select one or multiple filers that they are interested in their performance metrics, in order to limit the information only to theirs. This filers selection could be done through the dropdown menu on the top of the page, to the right of view selection section.

Freedom Pulse: Overview

The Overview view of the Freedom Pulse service of Data Services, provides a panel of highest (and when relevant lowest) performing filers in a cluster side by side in the following charts for comparison. The charts in this view are not historical, they are based on the most up to date data that Data Services has received from each filers.

At the top right, the view displays the numbers of the active filers, based on the selected filers through the filer selection menu, and to its right, the number of the active users (i.e. the number of active SMB connections) for the selected filers are displayed.

The rest of the Overview view presents the following charts and tables:

  • Top Filers - CPU Utilization: which shows the filers with highest CPU utilization in the cluster, ordered based on their CPU utilization percentages

  • Cores: which shows the number of the CPU the filers have access to
  • RAM: which shows the size of memory on which the filers are operating
  • SMB Count: which shows the number of the SMB connections to the filers

Freedom Pulse: System

In the System view of the Freedom Pulse service, the main focus of the information provided is on system and hardware performance metrics of the Freedom Filers in the cluster. As other views, users can select the filers they are interested in, through the dropdown menu on top.

The charts and tables in the System view are as follows:

  • CPU Utilization: which shows the CPU utilizations percentages for the selected filers over the time, for the selected time period
  • CPU Load Peak: which shows the average CPU load peak per minute for the selected filers, over the time, for the selected time period
  • Memory Utilization: which shows the memory utilizations percentages and size for the selected filers over the time, for the selected time period
  • Bandwidth Limit: which shows the maximum upload and download bandwidths for the selected filers
  • Network Traffic: which shows the network traffic in terms of data rate for the selected filers incoming and outgoing traffic, for both LAN and WAN, over the time for the selected time period
  • SMB Count: which shows the number of the SMB connections for the selected filers over time, for the selected time period, both as a graph and a table. The data in the table could be exported for external use as Raw data or Formatted
  • Disk I/O Stat: which shows the rate of disk I/O operations for the selected filers over the time, for the selected time period, for both read and write

Freedom Pulse: Storage

The Storage view of the Freedom Pulse service mainly provides charts and tables with regard to volumes of stored data and cache statistics of the Freedom Filers in the cluster. The charts and tables in the Storage view are as follows:

  • Cache Statistics: which is a table that lists the most recent local disk and various types of caches’ sizes for the selected filers. The data of this table could be exported for external use as Raw data or Formatted
