Panzura Data Services Analytics

Analytics provides at-a-glance data and statistics for Panzura CloudFS and other connected SMB or NFS file stores.

Analytics service charts and statistics are based on the information of all connected filers and clusters of an account, and this data is updated once per day.

Analytics uses the same audit logs and metadata of the file systems that File Audit and Global Search rely on, to extract valuable information about the file system status in terms of the age of files inside them, their dynamics of daily used storage capacity, and information about the behaviour of users, files and directories in terms of their access statistics.

File Audit data is only available for CloudFS, so user and file behavior metrics can only be displayed for connected Panzura filers, and not for other open NFS/SMB filers.

All other metrics are available for all filer types.

File Statistics

The file-related statistics that the Analytics service provides are as follows:

  • Total Files: which shows the total number of the files included in all the filers and clusters of the account
  • Average Size: which is the average size e calculated for the files in the account’s clusters based on the number of files and their total volume
  • Distribution by File Size: which is a chart that shows the number of the files for various ranges of the file sizes. Clicking on any specific bar of this chart, automatically starts a search in the Global Search service for the files with that size range

Storage Statistics

The storage statistics of the Analytics service provides users with the following information:

  • Aged Storage: which based on the age of the files in the account’s clusters, categorizes them into three groups, as follows:
  • Hot: for items aged less than 7 days
  • Warm: for items aged more than 7 days, but less that 30 days
  • Cold: for item aged more that 30 days

And provides them in the following four charts:

  • Used Capacity: which is storage capacity of the files
  • File Count: which is the number of the files
  • File Creation Data: in which the ages of the files is counted based on their creations date
  • File Last Modification Data: in which the ages of the files are counted based on the date on which they are last modified
  • Storage Added Daily

The Storage Added Daily chart visualize the aggregated change in the used capacity of the filers, due to addition or deletion of files, on a daily basis.

Most Active and Most Accessed

The information Analytics service provides in terms of the most frequent activities, are based on audit logs that enable the File Audit service; Therefore, they are only available for users with Panzura filers that have a file audit license. The most frequent activities that the Analytics service provides are as follows:

  • Most Active Users which is a chart presenting the users with the highest numbers of activity in terms of audit actions on files and directories, and their corresponding activity number. Below summarizes the features of this the Most Active Users chart:
  • Clicking on the chart's bar automatically runs an File Audit service search for that user in the File Audit page, and results in the all the audit actions which the user has taken
  • Users can select the various time periods for the chart, from right below the chart. The options for time periods are: 1 Day, 7 Days, 1 Month, 3 Months, 6 Months, 1 Year, and All
  • Through the Actions dropdown menu, on the top right of the section, users can:
    • Select individual filers to limit the chart to the audit actions taken place on only on one specific file
    • Export the full list of users with their corresponding activity number
    • Block a user, to prevent showing the their activity in the chart

Most Accessed Files which is a chart that presents the files with the highest numbers of activity on them, in terms of audit actions, along with their corresponding activity number. Below summarizes the features of this section:
  • Clicking on the chart's bar automatically runs an File Audit service search for that file in the File Audit page, and displays the complete audit history of the file
  • Users can select the various time periods for the chart, from right below the chart. The options for time periods are: 1 Day, 7 Days, 1 Month, 3 Months, 6 Months, 1 Year, and All

    • Export the full list of users with their corresponding activity number
    • Block a user, to prevent showing the their activity in the chart

Most Accessed Folders which is a chart presenting the directories with the highest numbers of activity in terms of audit actions, as well as their corresponding activity number. Below summarizes the features of this section:
  • Clicking on the chart's bar, automatically runs an File Audit service search for that user in the File Audit page, and results in the all the audit actions for that directory

Top 10 Active Folders which is a table that presents the top 10 directories with the highest numbers of activity in terms of audit actions. For each of the presented directories, the most active users who are responsible for those activities are also presented, as well as the volume of data added to or removed from that directory by each of those most active users. Below summarizes the features of this section:
